German Metaverse?
📊 A survey by Bitkom revealed that 20% view the Metaverse as a chance for growth, while 17% see it as a potential threat.
😱 Notably, 10% of businesses believe the Metaverse endangers their business model, and 15% even fear for their survival.
🎮 The Metaverse is primarily associated with entertainment, particularly in gaming, tourism, and media.
🏭 However, it also holds potential in industries like manufacturing, education, and healthcare. The main advantage for companies lies in improving collaboration and developing new products.
🛒 Many companies are interested in the Metaverse as a marketplace, with 45% considering product sales and 44% product presentations within it.
💬 Interest in virtual meetings and internal collaboration, however, has declined since the end of the pandemic.
🛠️ The biggest challenges include a lack of practical applications, insufficient standards, and regulatory uncertainties.
❓ Additionally, companies struggle with understanding the Metaverse and need better explanations and clear guidelines from technology providers.
💡 Despite these challenges, investments in the Metaverse are expected to grow. While only 2% of companies invested last year, this is projected to increase to 22% after 2025.
👉 Companies are looking for more information, roadshows, and support as they cautiously explore this new digital frontier.
Lamina1 Artefact.
🚀 NealStephenson is launching a new project called: Artefact
🌔 This ambitious venture is a collaboration between his blockchain platform, Lamina1, and the special effects powerhouse Wētā Workshop, known for their work on "Lord of the Rings" and "Avatar."
🌐 Artefact will serve as the flagship project for Lamina1, aiming to develop a blockchain powered Metaverse.
🎨 This platform, launched in 2022, already has 65,000 active users, signaling strong interest in decentralized, creator-driven content.
📚 The new project will build on themes from Stephenson’s literary universe, blurring the lines between creators and consumers.
👉 By providing a foundation that prioritizes long-term value and creative quality, Artefact hopes to empower users to take an active role in expanding the Metaverse. Features like digital ownership, co-creation, and AI integration are planned.
Bye, Bye, La Jolla!
🙅 Meta has scrapped its plans for a high-end mixed-reality headset.
👓 The device, known internally as La Jolla, was expected to rival Apple’s Vision Pro but was canceled due to cost concerns.
📉 Meta’s decision to cancel La Jolla follows the earlier discontinuation of the Quest Pro in 2023, which faced low sales and poor reviews.
📈 Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andre Bosworth insists that the company regularly shelves prototypes, downplaying the significance of the cancellation.
🤝 Zuckerberg remains committed to his metaverse vision, where users can shop, play, work, and learn in a digital universe built on VR and AR.
🛍️ Meta continues to sell its existing Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets and has even opened its operating system to other device makers in a bid to expand its market influence.
🔮 While the path to a fully realized metaverse has been rocky, Zuckerberg’s persistence shows that Meta isn’t giving up on the dream just yet, even as financial losses and product cancellations raise doubts about its viability.
